Model Railroading

National Model Railroad Association Merit Award winning Structures & Scenery

The Green River Junction Railroad has become a fallen flag.  This term, fallen flag, describes railroads that have been dissolved due to merger, bankruptcy, or liquidation.  As of January 15, 2021, we sadly announced the dismantling of this great model railroad.  May it live on as a sweet memory of past model railroad shows and in the many photographs taken over the years.

Prototypical model railroading is all about actual, both past and present, railroad operations from railroad equipment to railroad facilities.  Prototypical model railroading recreates the realism of an actual railroad to a high level degree of specific detail.

With limited space of modular railroading, actual prototype design in facility and operation is not practical.  Modular railroad design considers what we call selective compression:  selected scenes, buildings and effects that are reduced in size, but captures the essence of the realism of the railroad facility and industry.  Like an artist on a canvas, our models depict what we refer to as “Proto-Freelance”, intelligent construction of essential components and space conception that visually tells a story.  The Green River Junction Railroad built and told the story from countless hours of fun.

Reminiscing a great module railroad in pictures... Green River Junction Railroad!

A number of the modules have been sold to private layout owners, while most have been dismantled and harvested for structures and parts, while a few are in personal storage facilities.

About the Heritage

Heritage is an accounting of the experiences and journeys that has shaped the Central District Interchange.  The Green River Junction Railroad model railroad is one such event that has molded modeling technique, modular construction protocols and hobby friendships that last a life time.

As the days were waning for Green River Junction model railroad layout, new ideas where brought forth and solidified the concept and inception of the Central District Interchange.
